Life after coma

Living beyond coma, in that border zone between the semi-vegetative and vegetative state. In Italy there are about three thousand people who have suffered severe traumatic brain trauma, mostly caused by road accidents, who live in this condition today. The disabling outcomes are evident, lives turned upside down, a whole new reality to be rebuilt.

 

A topic of great importance for the Health and Social System in Italy, as in most industrialized countries. In Italy there are some public structures, real centers of excellence for the rehabilitation of serious acquired brain injuries; here begins the story of those who face the difficult path of awakening from a coma.

This work received a special mention at the Italian Award for Multimedia Photojournalism and was exhibited at the "Transizioni uno" international festival.
